St Mary's cathedral, Newcastle

The new organ in St Mary's Cathedral was completed in March 2013 . The design aims to respond to the surrounding architecture of Pugin's church, while offering a striking contemporary instrument for both choral and congregation accompaniment, performance and teaching. The instrument stands on a new west gallery,which will also accommodate the cathedral choir. The gallery and organ cases have framing of oak, with panelling of deep blue and red, further enriched with gilded chamfers and stars. The pipeshades, designed and carved by Keith German, feature flowers with Marian symbolism.
